Family photoshoot of a very special family in Noordhoek

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Newborn | No Comments

This is a family of 5 kids!!!  The mom to these very amazing five kids is a fairy godmother to all those who are lucky enough to know her.

Being a photographer is a blessing and those who have it as a hobby often look to me with admiration.  But like anything if you turn a hobby into a job it is exactly that – a job.  Yes I get emotionally involved and I have a constant flow of creativity but to much of anything is never a good thing.  Sometimes I just want numbers, logic, theory, analysis. So I had just come out of a very tough full month of newborns and all creative energy was spent.  My desire to shoot was probably on a 2 out of 10 and I was in need of a weekend.  All it took was two identical twins with golden blonde curls to come running out to greet me and my “shoot mood” hit an all time ten out of ten!!  I last photographed these twins (now four) at their home when they were just a few days old.

We had decided to not use an outside location this year as it was cold and miserable and I was quite keen on photographing them in their own environment and documenting “life” at home.    Photographing 3 small kids is usually a bit chaotic but these three … pure pleasure.  To just hang around their house and just let them just be.  To be there to capture everything they are and do at home was so special.  One day they will move out and their first home will be no longer.  To have record of that is special.  Moms and Dads always want a beautiful beach, forest or river setting.  Sometimes do just the obvious.  Photograph them at home.  I have a lot of blog posts to catch up on but had to do this one first.  Photographing these twins as newborns and seeing them grow year after year has been such a journey.  A little piece of my heart was left there that Sunday.

Photo shoot of Darling Georgina, Claremont, Cape Town

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work, Newborn | No Comments

This photo shoot was very close to my heart.  The mother of this very precious Georgina entered my life when I was just a little girl myself.  We grew up together and my sister and I spent a lot of time with her amazing family exploring the rivers and “jungles” of Constantia.  Who would have thought that years down the line I would be photographing her first daughter.

I made a decision last year to no longer take on friends photo shoots but to rather refer them to my photographer friends of which I have many.  It is a difficult situation merging friends with business as I find it very hard to charge my loved ones.  One day I will win the lotto, not have bills to pay and I can spend my life giving to families all around.  The gift of photographs is one they will keep forever and I could think of nothing better than giving and giving.  Unfortunately this is real life and there are bills to pay.

Georgina’s granny was a huge part of my upbringing and thankfully recognized that my craft is one of hard work and deserves full compensation.  Her way that she handled me with such professionalism and love towards her daughter and grand daughter meant that this was one family friend’s shoot I just had to take on with all my heart.  I felt so blessed and honoured to be photographing this little angel that has come into this world to light up so many people around her.

Georgina’s mom has such grace and true raw motherly warmth.  It was so amazing to see.  Thank you to you all for such a very special morning capturing Georgina as a baby.  I can’t wait to see her grow and be guided and loved by such a very special family.  Thank you for trusting me with your images.

Photo shoot: Client’s home in Claremont – Baby Charlotte and Nicholas

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work, Location Shoot, Newborn | No Comments

This must be the third time I have photographed this family.  This time it was to photograph their new little baby in their family Charlotte.  I was so excited to go meet the new addition to the family and to see her older brother Nicholas again.  It is great to see how much he grows and matures every time I see him yet still maintains that amazing little character I first met at our first shoot.  I mostly go to client’s houses as it does make it far easier for the parents.  This time we setup up in the main bedroom and I bought along lights.  I spent a bit of time with Nicholas on his own in his bedroom and then I used natural light.

Photo shoot of a tiny little 1.8kg prem baby, Durbanville, Cape Town

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work, Newborn | No Comments

I used to encourage mothers of premature babies to wait till they are about 2.5kg to photograph or at least until their due date.  This is ONLY because they are so small and so precious I like to leave them to just sleep and grow without disturbing them.  Having said that most moms want their babies documented in the first few days home from hospital no matter how small.  This little girl was just under 2kg when I went to go photograph her.  She was so tiny and so perfect and I was so blessed and privileged to get to hold such an amazingly small little being.  I now tell moms to let me know when is the best time for them.  I officially know now that I can work with any baby no matter how small.  Here is little Lila.

Photo shoot of Siblings in Constantia, Cape Town

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work, Location Shoot, Newborn | No Comments

This couple was photographed by the amazing and very talented wedding photographer Yvette Gilbert who then recommended me as a photographer who specializes in kids and baby photography.  I am so glad she did.  I so enjoyed my morning with these two little children.  The little girl was like a happy Duracell bunny with so much energy and personality and the little baby – well the photographs speak for themselves.  He was just gorgeous.  We did the first half of the shoot in a light airy room and then took a walk down to the Constantia Greenbelt near the Alphen Hotel where the little girl got to run wild and enjoy the outside beauty.  With older babies I tend to leave hats and props etc out of the shoots as older babies are better suited to natural photos.  I believe there is a fine line between cute & classy and cheesy.  But I couldn’t resist one hat!

Outdoor Photography Kids Shoot with Little Annabelle

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work | No Comments

Annabelle’s mom was set on an outdoor location for her beautiful little girl so I suggested we go for a lovely walk on the Constantia Greenbelt, take in the fresh air and keep it natural.  Annabel was such a sweet little girl and did not moan once throughout the walk.  We walked about a km and a half stopping to look at the river, flowers and dogs along the way.  I love shooting this way because you get to hang back and get some lovely natural moments.  Shooting in winter is one of my favourite seasons to shoot in.  The glow of the sun setting and the autumn leaves is beautiful in Cape Town at this time of year.  I would recommend winter over summer any day but that is just me.  Here are some of the photos.

Three amazing kids and a camera equals chaos, fun and photography

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work | One Comment

These 3 kids live in a dream family with a dream home and a dream life in Claremont.  Their lives remind of my life as a kid (2 girls, a boy and an amazing mom dedicated to just the kids and a dad who was always home for dinner time – bliss).

This perfect family have actually become very special friends and I look forward to seeing the little ones grow through the years.  It is through our kids that we seem to see life fly so fast – before we know it they will be teenagers doing what we used to do.  This is why photos are so precious.  Photos are so important.  They are the only thing besides memories that we have that preserve those younger years.

On that note please moms and dads take lots of photos and in this digital age please ensure that you back up all your photos or have photobooks printed.  You never know when that one hardrive is going to crash.  Back up Back up Back up!

Thank you to the Robertson family for having so much fun with my during your photoshoot.  I enjoyed every minute of it … Love tiff (Tim Smile)  Here are some of my favourites ..

Newborn Photography: Baby Oliver Peter Muller

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work, Newborn | No Comments

Oliver’s mom contacted me when she was still pregnant (drop dead gorgeously pregnant I must add) and booked me for the first week that Oliver was to come into this world.

Tiny little newborns change so much physically after the first week of their lives and become far more alert and aware of the outside world so it is always best to photograph them in the first 6 days when they are less easily disturbed and they are easier to position.  These are my tiniest clients.  Those tiny fingers, those tiny toes will grow so quickly and before one knows it the weeks of sleepless nights and the newborn appearance will be something of the past.

I photographed little Oliver when he was just 6 days old.  While he was content the whole time he did not remain sleep for very long periods of time – I think he was enjoying the limelight and not missing out on any of the action Smile  Oliver’s parents live in a gorgeous house in Mowbray and the décor made for a great variety of photos and here are some of my special ones…  Thank you little Oliver for being such a perfect little angel while I captured you in your very early days.  I look forward to seeing you grow up to become a little person –  you are so blessed to have been born into such a beautiful family.

Photoshoot of Jess & Matt as a Birthday Present for Dad, Rondebosch, Cape Town

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work | No Comments

It is amazing how doing photo-shoots can open up a little space for in your heart for each child you get to photograph.  I had such fun with both Matt (2 years) and Jess (4 years).  I gave them a few games to play in order to not only make the whole session fun for them but to catch them in their most natural moments.  The results were too precious.  At one point Jess ran over to me and said “wow I did not know I would be learning so much what game are we going to play now!”  I think from now on I need to carry a never ending bag of tricks and end with a lolly pop!

For their dads birthday present they gave him all the photos and a slideshow that I put together to their mom and dad’s wedding song.  This is only the 2nd slideshow I have put together (now standard with all my packages) and both times I have sat at my desk with tears rolling down my face and these are not even my kids!

Thank you precious, lovable little Jess and Matt for being such a pleasure to photograph … I hope you and your mom and dad get to treasure this slideshow for years to come.

The slideshow and some of my favourite images can be viewed below:

Photoshoot of a Gorgeous Baby: Rebecca, Sea Point, Cape Town

By | Kids Photography Cape Town, Latest Work, Location Shoot | One Comment

Rebecca’s mom is the most glam mom you will ever see.  Her love for shoes and accessories is her trade mark and she is adored for it.  It seems that little Rebecca has arrived into this world a little diva and her favourite playtime is when her mom gets to play dress up on her!  She is an absolute beauty, full of smiles and the love of her parents life.  It was way past her lunch time nap when I arrived but even so she was so easy to photograph.  One normally has to have a lot of patience with babies but this time I think Rebecca had to have a lot of patience with me.  (For any new moms feeling like a makeover after pregnancy, Rebecca’s mom Tamlyn is the queen of fashion, sells clothes from her showroom in Claremont and will show you how to put the strut back in your stride.  Moms often forget to put themselves first.  Remember a happy mom is a happy baby and a very happy husband!! 🙂 Contact Tamlyn on greenapplemp@telkomsa.net for more details on how to make you feel fabulous!)

Rebecca … You are so gorgeous little girl and I look forward to photographing you over your growing years!  Sleep tight!
